What my first Migraine felt like: no its not like a headache

I was standing in the kitchen doing the dishes.

One second I am scrubbing a pan the next my head feels like three knives had been stabbed through the bottom of my skull. I kneel down on the hard tile floor and push my hands against my temples.

I close my eyes seeing stars floating.

It feels as if someone has come and cracked my skull with a brick. Yet the only person home is my 3 month old daughter. I can hear her stirring from her nap. She will want to breastfeed.

I try to stand up but a wave of nausea brings me back to the floor.

Should I call 911? What is happening to me?

I crawl on all fours out of the kitchen and down the hall to her bedroom. Her screams make the pain so much worse and I breath deep. I stand up and pluck her out of her crib.

We sit in the rocking chair in her dark room and I pull out my breast to feed her. I close my eyes.

My skull seems to want to explode out of my skin.

I sit there for the next three hours holding my daughter until my husband returns home from work. Medicine does not touch this pain.

That is what my Migraines feel like. So no it is not just a headache.
